This Week In Neo Tokyo:
Q4 Is Going to Be a Banger

Everyone is hoping Q4 is going to be a banger. Everyone. It's all you see on the timeline. Mfers are all saying, “Don’t worry, Q4 will be great, it always is. Elections out of the way, muh historical data, many catalysts.” (I am mfers.)

While that remains to be seen, what is a cast-iron guarantee is that Neo Tokyo is focused on some of the most exciting initiatives in years for Q4. That’s straight from NT project manager Firestorm, so you can take that one to the Bank of Neo Tokyo and cash it.

Any guesses on what's behind the blurred images?

The next IRL citizen meet-up has been announced, and it’s at Token2049 Singapore! This follows the Dubai event from last April, which was a roaring success, and this one promises to be no different. Check out all the details in this announcement from Chr0nicle, along with info on two citizen projects co-hosting the event: Chronos Worlds and Crush AI.

The event is scheduled for Sept 19th, and although space is limited, citizen guests are being prioritized.

Some changes have been made to the Discord to improve our experience, including Neo Tokyo stats now displaying at the top of the server, and a new onboarding message for citizens fresh into The Citadel.

Additionally, the citizen-projects channel is now visible to meatbags, so now the unenlightened can get a peek at what’s going on behind our very tall walls. To see the rest, click through to the announcement here.

This is how things shaped up with the NT content:

Interlinked #45 - Nghia Nguyen, the community/R&D Director of SIPHER, joins Ben and Nick to discuss all things related to the exciting, fast-paced action multiplayer looter shooter RPG. Key discussions include Play 2 Airdrop, the intricacies of the gamer mindset, and what it takes to build sustainable tokenomics.

Market Monday - Well, the 60K celebrations didn’t last long at all. The Market Monday team pleads for it to come back, along with discussions on the recent news that Gary Gensler is once again on a rampage. This time, OpenSea is the target of his insatiable appetite for destruction. Indeed, OpenSea hasn’t been in our good books for the longest time, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend, as the old saying goes. Listen back here.

Meet Your Citizens - Sam Steffanina sits down with Block Editor to discuss why his catchphrase “Web3 Gaming is Inevitable” is not just a turn of phrase but a mantra that is a foregone conclusion. Discussions also include Sam's journey to the Citadel, his experience in Web3, and much more.

CitCap Q&A - The investment arm of The Citadel recently hosted a Q&A session for citizens to ask the team directly about the issues that matter most to them. If you missed it, you can catch the recording here.

NT Plays Archive - One half of this week's Meet Your Citizens focus, DrKepper, is featured this week on NTV doing a game overview for Big Time. Check out the feature on the good doctor and his partner in gaming, DylanDaVillain, a few articles down.

Ktrap has dropped his market update, and things could be worse, to be fair. An S1 recently went for 7.2 ETH ($17K), and that’s not terrible considering contracting monkeypox is more fashionable than buying NFTs at the moment.

A glowing review from citizen goldensun.eth on his recent Shibuya Mall purchase of a gaming mat designed by Jeff Treves. As is known, NFT project merch is always a bit hit or miss, but no one does it like Neo Tokyo. Constant hits and no misses. Mr. Treves also dropped a bit of alpha, stating that 10 more designs are lined up before 2025 is out!

Until next week, citizens.

Is FTX Actually Going to Do the Right Thing?

The FTX collapse was an event many people in crypto consider to be the thing that caused the last bear market we were in. The ripple effects of it are still felt to this day, though the major negative impact of their demise largely subsided after a few other projects, coins and exchanges went underwater with it. But back then, it was so bad that it made grown men cry and their children hungry for months!

Many think there is no redemption for SBF no matter how many years in prison he spends. Or is there?

Well, there have been rumors circulating that FTX intends to make those that lost money with them whole at last. Apparently, they will be distributing $16 BILLION to victims of FTX collapse, starting in Q4 2024.

Here is the catch though: every crypto degen hopes that this money will flow back into the markets. More specifically, their own little niche, be it altcoins, ordinals, memecoins or NFTs.

Many people believe this is bullish news for the space.

It is bullish, yes, but it is bullish for keeping the cosmic balance intact and bullish for restoring our faith in humanity. Not so much for the overall crypto markets.

I think the (coping) degens of Crypto Twitter grossly overestimate how much of this money will flow back into the crypto markets.

These people have been beaten, brutally rugged and betrayed. They want out.

I sincerely don't see many of them deploying this money back into alts or leaving it on centralized exchanges ever again.

Someone gives you a bailout, do you gamble it again? No, you take your winnings, count your blessings and RUN THE F OUT OF THE CASINO.

At least that's what sensible investors would do, right?

DylanDaVillain

Dental student by day and Twitch streamer by night, DylanDaVillain was on the Clark Kent path already by the time he was bit by the crypto bug. He had been streaming a lot of Rust when he realized he could sell skins on the Steam marketplace; and gaming plus revenue became a thought he couldn’t set down.

A friend came on a stream and started talking about making money playing Axie and he fell down the rabbit hole from there. Web3 gaming just made sense, and it has directed his crypto journey ever since.

DrKepper

DrKepper started out as a business analyst out of high school writing requirements documents, along with working in software testing and quality assurance for a time. Now a computer programmer with experience in all areas of software development, DrKepper is currently programming everything from desktop, mobile, to web.

A colleague had been dabbling in altcoins for sometime when one day he told DrKepper about NFTs. This was the lightbulb DrKepper needed to finally jump in. He’s already owned digital assets in games for years and the technology clicked instantly for him. He started on wax chain and eventually moved on to Ethereum and Axie.

DrKepper and Dylan both met up at a Project Kaizen afterparty during Veecon. Incidentally, the Neo Tokyo Merch Lead himself invited them to the event where they joined forces!

Shortly after, they began what would eventually become NextGenGaming, a web3 gaming guild. The guild has a treasury they use to reward members for engaging and showing up to events. “We're hosting real events, playing these games, and our discord's always open mics are always open, people are always talking to each other. That's that camaraderie we're trying to build,” Dylan said.

NT Plays: Connecting Neo Tokyo and Gamers

Another exciting part of Dylan and DrKepper’s journey is their collaboration with NT Plays, a community-driven gaming initiative under the Neo Tokyo ecosystem. As Dylan explains, NT Plays curates top-tier games that align with their community’s high standards. The partnership allows NextGenGaming members to focus on playing the best games while fostering community growth.

“Neo Tokyo partners with so many different games, so we don’t have to worry about reaching out to developers individually,” Dylan says. “We just tap into NT Plays, and they hook us up with the best games to try out. It’s a win-win for us.”

Outside the Gaming World: Hobbies and Interests

When they’re not leading the charge in Web3 gaming, Dylan and DrKepper have diverse interests that keep them grounded. DrKepper’s love for board games mirrors his passion for strategy and social interaction. He attends GenCon, a massive board game convention in Indianapolis, where he indulges in resource management and social deduction games. He even met his wife at a college board game club, a testament to how deeply embedded gaming is in his life.

Dylan, on the other hand, balances his love for gaming with outdoor pursuits. A self-proclaimed snowboarding enthusiast, he dreams of moving to Montana or Wyoming for a life closer to the mountains. He’s also a new dad, a role that brings him immense joy outside the digital realm.

“I’m all about gaming, but nothing beats the peace of being on a mountain,” Dylan says. “Snowboarding is where I truly find balance.”

Dylan and DrKepper are shaping the future of gaming through NextGenGaming and their collaborations with NT Plays. Their commitment to building authentic communities, offering real value, and promoting the best games speaks volumes about their passion.
