Following last week's prediction that we might see some perks from Maxmerro’s NyanHeroes, it only took a matter of hours for this prophecy to come to pass. Citizens can now enjoy:

  • 1,000 points added to their account (other communities got 500)

  • a 1.5x multiplier for ALL points collected throughout the missions (the highest multiplier given to any community partner)

Many thanks to Maxmerro for swiftly coming through for his fellow citizens!

NT also announced another partnership, this one with Icon.X World. We’ll soon have our very own Sim Racing team, and if you’re looking to get involved in the upcoming Roster Championship, check out how to here.

Additionally, we had some updates from our sponsors, Virtue Poker, on some very exciting updates you need to be aware of! Listen back to the recording here.

Something is happening over in the Fitness thread of Neo Tokyo. Reports of a wild-eyed Citizen encouraging his brethren to “DRINK THE EGGS” have been rampant. Who is this man?! Should we have he who goes by the name of “SlyCooper” on Degen Digest? Should we send out a welfare check? Will you drink ze eggs and be happy? Let us know in the comments of this week's Newsletter announcement on X.

The NT Outreach team has announced all citizens have received a Forbes Web3 Legacy Pass VIP Code! Apply via this link here, and get all the details in the thread below:

An IRL event update: the 3rd (so far) 2024 event with an official NT presence will be Rare Evo Vegas on August 15th to 17th.

To close us out, a bit of heart-stopping nostalgia to remember fondly. Not sure why Swampdonkey would just drop this emotional attack unsolicited, but if we saw it, so do you. Enjoy.

Exploring the Difference Between NFTs and Ordinals

In Crypto, two terms that have gained attention are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Ordinals. While both represent unique digital assets, they differ in how they are stored and accessed within the blockchain ecosystem. In this article, we'll delve into the distinctions between NFTs and Ordinals, their storage mechanisms, and their implications for the crypto space.

Understanding NFTs and Ordinals

NFTs:
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are digital tokens that represent ownership or proof of authenticity of a unique item or piece of content. These items can range from digital art, music, videos, virtual real estate, to in-game assets. Unlike cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, where each unit is interchangeable and equal in value, NFTs are indivisible and cannot be replicated. Each NFT has its own distinct value and properties, making it unique from other tokens.

Ordinals:
Ordinals are another type of digital asset, but they have a different storage mechanism compared to NFTs. Instead of storing data off-chain, like NFTs often do, Ordinals are stored directly on the Bitcoin blockchain. They are created by embedding data within Bitcoin transactions, typically in the form of metadata or additional information linked to specific transactions. This means that the data associated with Ordinals resides directly on the blockchain, making it immutable and transparent.

Storage Mechanisms

NFTs:
NFTs typically store metadata or references to external content off-chain. This means that while the ownership and provenance of the NFT are recorded on the blockchain, the actual digital asset or associated data, such as images, videos, or URLs, are stored on decentralized or centralized servers. NFT platforms often utilize IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) or similar decentralized storage solutions to ensure the accessibility and integrity of the associated content.

Ordinals:
In contrast, Ordinals store data directly within Bitcoin transactions. This data can include information about the digital asset, ownership details, or any other relevant metadata. By embedding data within Bitcoin transactions, Ordinals leverage the security and immutability of the Bitcoin blockchain. This ensures that the data associated with Ordinals is tamper-proof and verifiable by anyone with access to the blockchain.

Implications and Use Cases

NFTs:
NFTs have gained popularity across various industries, including art, gaming, entertainment, and collectibles. They enable creators to monetize digital content and provide a new way for users to own and trade unique assets. NFTs also offer provenance and authenticity verification, addressing concerns related to digital piracy and intellectual property rights.

Ordinals:
Ordinals present interesting possibilities for leveraging the Bitcoin blockchain for digital asset representation. By storing data directly on the blockchain, Ordinals offer transparency, security, and censorship resistance. They could be used for various applications, including digital collectibles, verifiable ownership records, or timestamping of digital content.

Conclusion

In summary, NFTs and Ordinals represent two distinct approaches to tokenizing and representing digital assets within the blockchain ecosystem. While NFTs store data off-chain and focus on uniqueness and ownership, Ordinals store data directly on the Bitcoin blockchain, emphasizing transparency and immutability. Both concepts have their unique strengths and use cases, and their continued development is likely to reshape the landscape of digital ownership and asset representation in the crypto space.

Meet Your Neo Tokyo Community Council: MHL

There is not much to report on MHL pre-crypto since he joined at the young age of 17 while still in high school! His story began when he asked his dad for some cash because he wanted to hang with his friends, but his dad told him to get a job. Being a resourceful teen, he choose to sell his gold necklace instead. The friend who bought it paid in Bitcoin. MHL felt like he got scammed because as a minor, he couldn’t register for any CEXs to cash out. He didn’t know what to do with the Bitcoin, so instead he decided to put them to work learning how to trade and eventually sold that bitcoin in 2017 while also investing in ICOs.

In 2018 when the bear struck, MHL went to the atypical school of online research and YouTube to learn as much as he could about economics. Eventually, he found himself providing analysis and reports to friends, which is where he made his first sale. The research turned into gaining clients, then advising for project founders, and eventually the launch of MHL Solutions.

MHL got into Neo Tokyo by joining the Citizen Capital Team after speaking with Connected. Once Citizen Capital partnered with Neo Tokyo, MHL needed a citizen in order to join an AMA, and that is when he became an S2. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with The Citadel.

Most of his time right now goes to working with his clients through MHL Solutions. He recently developed the economics for iAgent and Locked.Money. He advises a variety of clients in the Web3 space, including both NFT and DeFi projects/companies. “My focus is into building economics that are going to make, I'd say, the difference out there because there isn't much information about economics and how to analyze them properly,” Mark said.

As a tokenomics advisor, we might assume his expertise is numbers. However, MHL says it is actually human behavior. A self taught student of psychology, he uses what he learns in his analysis of economies. Where he draws the line is projects that want a quick turn around in their economy development. He likes to take his time and do them right, or not at all.

Aside from Citizen Capital, MHL is well known within The Citadel for providing assistance with the Project Resource Program. There are a lot of founders and executives in the web3 space that are afraid (or unsure) of how to reach out for help. The PRP provides them with a safe space to gather, network, and essentially help each other out with common problems and solutions.

Outside of the world of web3, MHL enjoys bike riding and getting outdoors. He tries to get outside to decompress whenever possible; whether its climbing a mountain or visiting his properties. He also enjoys movies and growing up in Opera, Italy.
